You Work on Top of a Mountain

Not to mention you’ll be living there, too.  Mount Evans is a magic place.  Shwayder, nestled in its valley about 4,000 feet below the peak, is a diamond in the rough.  You’ll have dozens of opportunities to explore the mountain to its fullest, from overnight backpacking trips to “Embassy,” a game of capture the flag that spans a huge portion of the valley.

Meet the Best Friends You’ll Ever Have

For a lot of our staff, this is the reason to come back year after year.  Our community is exceptionally warm and welcoming; brand new staff make good friends before their first night’s even over. A summer on the mountain together will feel closer to a full year filled with friends and memories that last a lifetime.

Working with Kids

Let’s be honest, you probably wouldn’t be reading this page if you weren’t interested in working with children!  Our campers, ages 7-15, are the lifeblood of Shwayder, and everything we do revolves around facilitating their fun and safety.  If you’re interested in providing kids the best summer of their life, this might be the job for you.

Amazing, Colorado-exclusive Day-off Opportunities

Summertime in Colorado is something of legend.  Not only is camp only about an hour’s drive from both Denver and Boulder, but due to our prestigious mountain location, adventure is never too far away. Whether catching a show at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater or navigating St. Mary’s Glacier (only a couple of miles up I-70 from camp), you’re going to find something awesome to do with your day off.

A Supportive Community for Out-of-Town Staff

Making new members of staff feel as comfortable as possible is of absolute importance to veteran Shwayder Staff. Nevermind your non-Colorado resident status, you’ll never have a problem finding a place to stay or someone to show you around. We want our staff to enjoy their days off!

“Work” = Ziplining, Horseback Riding, Backpacking, etc.

“We’re getting paid for this?!” You could spend your summer washing cars, mowing lawns, waiting tables, selling pants, etc.  Or you could spend your summer hiking mountains, hitting the archery field, chucking water balloons, making friends, laughing with kids, mounting horses, riding the zip line, and seeing sunrises at 14,265 feet!

Small, Inclusive Staff

Shwayder is a relatively small camp with about 125 campers at a time and 60 staff members.  This means you’ll get to know everyone, and everyone will want to get to know you!  There’s no sense of community like the one we cultivate in our intimate mountain valley.  We pride ourselves that each staff member develops their own unique and important role in our community.

It Beats an Internship

This one kind of goes without saying.  Do you really want to spend eight hours a day, all summer, fetching coffee and doing data entry, or would you rather punch your ticket to the most memorable two months of your entire life ?

Contribute Creatively to the Way Camp Operates

After the campers are all tucked into their bunks, staff gets together to talk about how the day went, tomorrow’s plans, and anything we may want to change.  This is our opportunity to make sure camp remains its absolute best . It’s a great chance to help shape camp and take ownership in how we operate as a staff.
