Specialty Activities

Shwayder Camp’s Specialty Activities

At our home in the Arapahoe National forest we are able to offer a number of specialty activities for Shwayder campers.  Some of the activities we offer are horseback riding, archery, ropes course, wilderness/hiking, arts and crafts, and drama.  With our specially trained staff, campers are able to delve deeply into these areas of interest and gain new skills.

Our Horse Back Riding Program includes:

Head Wrangler trained in equine science and certified

Wranglers specially trained and certified

Arena and trail rides at least 1x per session

Child sized saddles and tack

Our Archery Program includes:

An archery specialist

Compound bows

Safety equipment

Opportunities to practice 1x per week

Our Ropes Course Program includes:

A certified ropes course inspected annually with two specially trained people to run all ropes course activities

Kid friendly safety equipment including specially designed harnesses and helmets

A certified low ropes course with team building activities

Campers participate in both high and low ropes course activities during their two week session

Our Wilderness Program includes:

A specially trained Wilderness First Aid Responder (WOFR) leading each overnight

An overnight once a session and optional overnight or long hike for older campers

Hiking throughout the Arapahoe National forest hikes may include: Chicago Lakes, Echo Lake, First Meadows, and Angel Ridge

Training for campers on wilderness safety, site set-up and clean-up

Our Arts and Crafts and Drama Program includes:

An arts and crafts/drama specialist

A wide variety of arts and crafts activities including: tie dye, friendship bracelets, painting, nature drawing, sculpture, and mosaics

Drama activities including: improv games, creative plays, and play writing

Artists in Residence each session to work with campers

Two athletics specialists

A new state of the art athletic field

A wide variety of sports and games for all skill levels and abilities
